 Acts 8:18-24
PROPOSITION:  We must examine our own heart.

1.        Simon was just converted – great joy – welcome to the family of God

2.        Simon committed a sin – is in a horrible condition

3.        Don’t spend any more time in this condition

4.        Galatians 2:5 – no, not for an hour

 Look at Simon’s Heart

  1. Heard and obeyed the gospel – 8:13
  2. Was saved – Mark 16:16
  3. Some worldliness remains
    1. He attempts to buy the power of God with money
    2. 2 ways to receive power

                                                               i.      Apostles – baptism in Holy Spirit

                                                              ii.      Christians – laying on of hands

  1. Strong terms used
    1. Heart is not right
    2. In bond of iniquity
    3. Gall of bitterness
  2. God’s plan to restore
    1. Repent
    2. Pray God for forgiveness
    3. Asks others to pray for him

 A Look at Your Heart

  1. Have you obeyed the gospel? Are you a Christian?
  2. Have you erred from the truth? Have you wandered away from God?

 IS YOUR HEART RIGHT WITH GOD?

  1. During worship
  2. Partaking of communion
  3. Giving to the work of Christ
  4. Forgiving others
  5. In prayer
  6. Study
  7. Toward – elders, deacons, church members

 Conclusion:

  1. Is your heart right with God?
